Prime Minister outlines OPMC key deliverables and 2026 Budget
Prime Minister, Hon. Jeremiah Manele, has outlined the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s (OPMC) priority programmes for 2026, along with the corresponding budget allocations.
The Prime Minister outlined the deliverables in his contribution to the second reading of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
“Sir, allow me to shed some light on the key programmes the Office of Prime Minister and Cabinet will work on in 2026 based on the resources that will be appropriated under this bill.”
The OPMC’s recurrent budget for 2026 is set at $120,760,432, down 35 percent from 2025, due mainly to a one-time expense for the 2025 PIF Leaders Meeting. Payroll accounts for $56,512,890, while other charges total $64,247,542.
The development budget amounts to $9,450,000 and will support important initiatives, including SIBC projects, with $2,500,000 allocated for land, equipment, and commissioning of the Lata AM Transmission Tower and $950,000 for building the new Lata Radio station.
The OPMC will also use $6,000,000 for its own key programmes, including $500,000 for final design work on the Prime Minister’s residence, $2,200,000 for housing repairs, maintenance, and demolition of two old Tier 2 houses, $3,000,000 to construct one new Tier 2 residence, and $300,000 for picket fencing at the OPMC office.
Prime Minister Manele also highlighted the strategic priorities of OPMC, which include advancing transformative infrastructure projects, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of government programmes across ministries, completing the audit of the 2023 Pacific Games and formally closing the NHA, strengthening statutory bodies and the political party system, enforcing the Leadership Code, and building regional and international partnerships to support national development objectives.
“These initiatives are designed to strengthen governance, ensure accountability, and support sustainable national development through careful resource allocation and monitoring,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
