GNUT confirms appointment of Tovosia as Acting Prime Minister
The Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) affirms its full trust and confidence in the leadership of the Honourable Bradley Tovosia, who has been appointed Acting Prime Minister during the absence of both the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister.
The appointment of an Acting Prime Minister is made by the Governor-General on the advice of the Honourable Prime Minister as provided for under section 38 (1) of the Constitution.
In this instance, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Honourable Bradley Tovosia, is the Acting Prime Minister.
GNUT reiterates its full confidence in his leadership until such time as his appointment is revoked by the Governor-General.
It should be noted that neither the Constitution nor the Cabinet Handbook requires that the Acting Prime Minister must be the Minister of Finance and Treasury or the Minister of National Planning and Coordination.
GNUT encourages the Leader of Official Opposition to discharge his mandate in a genuine and truthful manner. However, GNUT acknowledges and respects the role of the Opposition as the alternative government.
GNUT welcomes the Leader of Opposition to take this matter to court and his right to do so.
