Govt’ Donates 12 Vehicles to Western Province

Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele this morning handed over 12 vehicles to the Western Provincial Government.

The handover ceremony took place at the new finance complex in Noro.

The vehicles were donated from the fleet used to transport Pacific leaders during the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) retreat in Noro and Munda.

Speaking during the handover, the Prime Minister said he was pleased to donate the vehicles following a request from the Western Provincial Government during their courtesy visit to him in Honiara earlier this year.

He said of the 12 vehicles, Two Hilux vehicles are for the Western Provincial Assembly, One for the Ministry of Finance in Noro, One for Immigration (Munda/Noro), to be stationed in Noro, One for Biosecurity based in Noro, and One for Health Quarantine, also based in Noro.

In terms of buses, One each will go to Gizo Hospital and Helena Goldie Hospital, One to the Western Provincial Assembly, and One to the Noro Town Council.

The remaining two 33-seater buses are for the Ministry of Finance in Noro.

In receiving the vehicles, Premier Hon. Billy Veo thanked the Government, saying the vehicles will help address transportation challenges in the province.

He said the donation speaks volumes about the positive response of the Government to their request.

He also encouraged those who will use the vehicles to take good care of them to ensure they serve their purpose for a long time.
