ISIA HELD FIRST-EVER AWARDS CEREMONY

By Mary Manelegua

The Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA) held its first-ever accounting awards ceremony at the Heritage Park Hotel on Friday evening.

The event, which followed a two-day annual congress, marked the inaugural occasion to recognize outstanding leaders in the accounting profession within the Solomon Islands.

Prior to this event, the country’s accountants had not had an awards ceremony to acknowledge the contributions of individuals excelling in the accounting field.

During a media interview, ISIA Chief Executive Officer, Pamela Naesol-Alamu, highlighted the necessity of recognizing accountants’ contributions to the profession.

She emphasized that the awards honored not only professional achievements but also the recipients’ roles in the capacity development of the Solomon Islands and its financial system.

The awards initiative aims to encourage and inspire young accounting professionals to drive change and develop their leadership skills.

This year’s awards featured three categories: the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Outstanding Service to the Profession Award, and the Emerging Accountants Award.

Betty Nanau, a recipient of the Emerging Accountants Award, expressed her honor and pride in receiving the award.

She underscored the importance of accountants’ roles in the country, emphasizing their significant contributions to the nation’s economic development.

Ms. Nanau also extended her gratitude to those who nominated her and acknowledged the trust placed in her for the award.

SIBC News understands that the ISIA now plans to make the awards night an annual event, commencing this year 2025.
