Jeffrey Poea wins Oceania Top Award

The Oceania Athletics Association (OAA) has awarded Jeffrey Poea the title of Male Technical Official of the Year during its congress held in the Cook Islands last week.

President of the Athletics Solomon Association, Michael Kuali, who attended the congress and received the award on Poea’s behalf, officially presented the honor to him this evening at the Mendana Hotel, in the presence of fellow athletics officials.

A proud and excited Poea told SIBC Sports after the presentation that the recognition is a once in a lifetime and historic achievement in his career.

“Receiving this Oceania award feels like a lifetime achievement. It’s a historic, remarkable, and truly exciting moment in my life as a technical official,” Poea expressed.

He added that winning an award was never his intention, as his motivation has always been his love for athletics and helping young people.

“Honestly, I never aimed to win any award in my lifetime. I’ve just always been passionate about athletics, helping students stay fit and healthy at school. I believe that’s why the Federation and Oceania recognized my involvement and contribution to the sport,” Poea said.

Poea also had words of encouragement for aspiring officials.

“My advice to young technical officials is to pursue their work with passion and responsibility.”

“Take it one step at a time. One day, they too may be recognized with such an award.”

He also expressed profound thanks to the Oceania Athletics Association congress, and the national federation for acknowledging his dedication.

“I just want to thank the OAA congress for this award, the OAA and our national federation for their support, my fellow national technical officials, and most importantly, my students at Saint Joseph Tenaru Catholic School,’’

Meanwhile, Athletics Solomon Association President Michael Kuali congratulated Poea and expressed gratitude on behalf of the federation.

“We thank Jeffrey Poea for bringing home this prestigious title of Male Technical Official of the Year. It’s a great achievement for him and a proud moment for Athletics Solomon at the Oceania level,” Kuali said.
