
Lavukal House of Chiefs celebrates Chiefs Day

The Lavukala House of Chiefs in Russell islands, in Central islands province, celebrated its annual Chiefs day at Marulaon Island over the weekend.
The event coincided with the enthronement of 4 new clan chiefs and celebrated the retirement of a Chief after serving for 36 years.
A workshop for the chiefs was held on Saturday on the important aspects of good governance, mindset and family governance.

Enthronement or blessing of the new chiefs
Facilitator of the workshop, Lelsey Filiomea said the workshop is important to guide the chiefs in their leadership roles.
Meanwhile, the event provided an opportunity for chiefs to work together with the Provincial and national government in their development programs within the Save Russel constituency under the leadership of their Member of Parliament, Hon. Oliver Salopuka.

Cultural performance
In his remarks, Hon. Salopuka said the Lavukala house of chiefs is pleased to have some investment in their investment company that was formed to help the people of Russell Islands.
Savo Russell Constituency Officer, George Hasa encouraged the chiefs to take responsibility in their leadership.
He encouraged them to set their proposals right and forwarded them to his office whether it be from community, clans or tribes.
