Ministry of Public Service launches key policy priorities

The Ministry of Public Service launched three major policy initiatives at Rock Haven Inn in Honiara on Tuesday.

The new policies includes the Public Service Transformation Strategy 2023-2033, the Public Service Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Framework, and the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Policy.

Public Service Minister Francis Sade expressed his enthusiasm for the launching of the three policies.

“The Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Ministry of Public Service work hand in hand to deliver their mandates. While the PSC focuses on hiring, dismissal, and discipline, the Ministry of Public Service handles terms and conditions,” he said.

He emphasized that people in Solomon Islands depend on the public service to serve with commitment, competence and accountability.

“That is why the government is determined to strengthen the Ministry of Public Service to ensure that it becomes the engine room of efficiency, professionalism and transformation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service Luke Cheka explained that these policies will apply across all government ministries, and not just the Ministry of Public Service.

“They are not Ministry of Public Service documents. These are Solomon Islands Public Service documents and policies, and every ministry and agency of the government has a key role to play in implementing these policies.”

He added that the policies align directly with the general policy priorities for the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) and provide the roadmap for action.

It also serve as instruments for change within government ministries.
