Opposition Leader backs PM to host successful PIFL Summit

Leader of Opposition Hon Matthew Wale has congratulated the government voicing the Opposition’s support behind the Prime Minister to successfully host the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara next month.

Speaking during the motion of special adjournment moved by the Prime Minister in Parliament recently, Hon Wale wished the Prime Minister and the foreign minister well in hosting this Summit.

The Leader of Opposition said the region has been very good to us and it is good we host them and show our appreciation.

“We (Solomon Islands) have benefited and grown from the regions generosity and it is only fitting that we host our pacific family well,” he said.

Hon Wale said it would be a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet our pacific brothers and sisters.

“It is a great opportunity to reach out and network with the pacific region as we charter the uncertainties in our region together,” he said.

Opposition MP and one time former deputy Prime Minister Hon John Maneniaru also echoed similar sentiments highlighting the importance of the PIFL Summit.

“I must congratulate the Prime Minister, government and our country as we prepare to host our pacific family. I trust the Prime Minister to lead discussions on behalf of us in this summit,” he said.

The former deputy Prime Minister also called on Solomon Islanders to welcome the visitors with pride and respect.

“Let us make them feel at home and enjoy our happy isles,” he said.

Former Prime Minister and MP for Central Honiara Gordon Darcy Lilo encouraged the Prime Minister to host the pacific leaders well.

“We have gone through challenging times and the region has stood by us. It’s time to show our appreciation,” the former Prime Minister said.

Hon Lilo also conveyed his well wishes to the Prime Minister and the Government.
