Prime Minister Honourable Jeremiah Manele, MP, today informed the National Parliament of the passing of Honourable Snyder Rini, former Member of Parliament for Marovo Constituency and former Prime Minister of Solomon Islands.
Hon. Rini passed away this morning, marking the end of a long and distinguished political career. Prime Minister Manele expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Hon. Rini as a devoted statesman who served the nation with distinction for more than two decades.
“On behalf of the Government for National Unity and Transformation and the people of Solomon Islands, I extend our deepest sympathy to his family, the people of Marovo, and all who had the privilege of working with him,” Prime Minister Manele stated.
Although his tenure as Prime Minister was brief, his election to the highest office in 2006 came at a pivotal time in the country’s history, when the foundations of democracy were tested.
Members of Parliament stood in solemn unity today to observe a minute of silence in honour of the late Honourable Snyder Rini.
“His election as Prime Minister in 2006 was a historic moment. The challenges of that time demonstrated the resilience of our democracy and the commitment of our people to peace and stability,” Prime Minister Manele reflected.
The late Hon. Rini began his parliamentary career in 1997, serving for over 20 years. He held several key ministerial portfolios, including Finance and Treasury, Education and Human Resources Development, and National Planning. His leadership and contributions to national development earned him widespread respect.
Parliament extended heartfelt condolences to the family, constituents of Marovo, and former colleagues of the late Hon. Snyder Rini.
