Prime Minister Manele affirms continued Government funding for SINIS: A National Legacy
In a reaffirmation of national commitment to sports development and youth empowerment, the Prime Minister and Minister for the 2023 Pacific Games, Hon. Jeremiah Manele MP, has announced that the Government for National Unity and Transformation will provide financial support for the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS) on an annual basis to ensure it continues to grow.
Prime Minister Manele’s assurance comes as the nation celebrates a historic transition in ownership and governance arrangements of SINIS, marked by the formal handover of SINIS ownership from the National Hosting Authority (NHA) to the National Sports Council (NSC) through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The state-of-the-art national institute of sports, the second fully-fledged sports institute in the Pacific was fully funded by the Solomon Islands government, an investment for the future of our youths and sports development in the country.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony on Friday, Prime Minister Manele declared that SINIS will be funded under ongoing Government Subvention and future national budgets, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and expanding the world-class sports facilities developed for the 2023 Pacific Games.
“The Government will continue to assist SINIS through the provision of budget support to the NSC to ensure the facilities are continually well maintained,” he stated.
The government’s continued investment in SINIS ensures that the momentum generated by the Pacific Games will not fade but will instead lay the foundation for long-term social, health, and economic benefits.
The Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports is more than just a sports facility—it is a national institution, a place of pride, and a beacon of hope and opportunity for our nation’s young population.
With government backing secured, SINIS will remain a hub of excellence, accessible to all, and driven by a shared vision of national growth through sport.
The Prime Minister described SINIS as a proud symbol of national unity and progress and highlighted the importance of preserving its identity.
“The name SINIS puts our country first. It links the Institute to our nation—not just to a sports body. This institute belongs to the people of Solomon Islands. Its national label must remain, for the region and the world to see.”
SINIS, which played a critical role in the historic hosting of the 2023 Pacific Games, has rapidly become a cornerstone of athletic excellence and inclusive development.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the range and breadth of the SINIS program must be maintained and expanded, ensuring that the facility continues to foster high-performance sports, talent identification, and community engagement for generations to come.
Underscoring the spirit of inclusivity, the Prime Minister affirmed that all PG2023 sports facilities, including SINIS, belong to the people of Solomon Islands.
Members of the Solomon Islands public—schools, communities, and national sports federations—have the right to access these facilities.
They were built for all of us, and they must serve everyone.
