Prime Minister Visits Solomon Kings Training Grounds at Wynnum Wolves FC

Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele visited Wynnum Wolves FC in Brisbane on Thursday, 20 November 2025, to see firsthand the training grounds being prepared for the Solomon Kings.

The Prime Minister was welcomed at Carmichael Park by Wynnum Wolves FC President Rabieh Krayem, who briefed him on the facilities that will serve as the Australian training base for Solomon Kings FC.

Prime Minister Manele and President Krayem held productive discussions centred on their shared commitment to the Solomon Kings project, which both sides agreed represents an exciting new chapter for football in the Solomon Islands. The Prime Minister was briefed by President Krayem on the strong foundation already in place for Wynnum Wolves, including club culture, coaching pathways, and preparations for player development. The briefing also covered some of the challenges experienced by the club and highlighted the resilience of the players and their community.

The Club President highlighted Wynnum’s long-standing relationship with the Solomon Islands and reaffirmed the club’s dedication to supporting the growth and development of the game across the Solomon Islands and the Pacific. He noted that the Oceania Pro League, a new professional regional competition supported by FIFA, aims to elevate football standards across Oceania, and the Solomon Kings will play a key role in this exciting transformation.

The Prime Minister acknowledged and welcomed the progress achieved so far, commending Wynnum Wolves for mobilising corporate partners and football expertise in a collaborative approach with SIFF. He said the initiative will provide new opportunities for Solomon Islands players, strengthen pathways for young talent, and deepen people-to-people ties between the Solomon Islands and Australia.

He emphasised that the Solomon Kings project aligns with the Government for National Unity and Transformation’s (GNUT) focus on capital development, unity, and stability, with sport as a transformational force.

The Prime Minister also noted the broader economic and social benefits of the partnership, including upcoming engagements involving multiple teams from Honiara and the long-term potential for enhanced football exchanges in the region.

The Wynnum Wolves–SIFF partnership includes plans for grassroots development for players aged 10 to 16, strengthened coach-education pathways, and exposure opportunities through Wynnum’s international partners.

Prime Minister Manele thanked Wynnum Wolves FC for their warm welcome and reaffirmed the Solomon Islands Government’s commitment to ensuring that the Solomon Kings project continues to move forward.

He was accompanied by Temotu/Nendo MP Hon. Stephen Kumi, Foreign Affairs officials, Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Australia H.E. Robert Sisilo, Mr. George Tuti, and other officials from his office.
