The Makira-Ulawa Provincial Assembly is set for a decisive sitting on the 9th of December, 2025 to debate a motion of no confidence that was put on notice against the Premier, Stanley Siapu.
Makira Ulawa Provincial Assembly Clerk Clement Rohorua confirmed that the Speaker had received the notice on 25th of November.
The Speaker confirmed that the notice met all requirements under Standing Order 108, which governs motions of no confidence.
With compliance established, the motion has been cleared to be tabled during the Assembly sitting.
The motion, filed by Hon. Douglas Kuper, MPA for East Arosi Ward, cited three grounds:
- Gross misuse or neglect of powers
- Misappropriation of public funds
- Conduct bringing the Office of the Speaker into disrepute
The notice is effective as of 26 November and will lapse on 4th December, seven clear days.
“With all procedural checks satisfied and timelines confirmed, the motion will be listed for the Assembly’s sitting scheduled for the 9th of December,” Mr. Rohorua said.
The motion will come after the assembly deliberates on the revised appropriation bill scheduled to begin on 1st December.
Meanwhile, Premier Siapu in a statement said that his government is united and fully intact.
He welcomed the motion, describing it as “a defining moment of accountability and a healthy test of democratic leadership.”
He explained the motion provides an opportunity for his government to demonstrate its cohesion, stability, and unwavering commitment to delivering developments to the people of Makira Ulawa Province.
The Premier also claimed that the allegations raised are weak, unsubstantiated, and cannot distract them from their work they continue to deliver.
