Solomon Islands Delegation Completes Seminar in Rural Development Training in China

A delegation of 36 officials and professionals from the Solomon Islands has successfully completed a comprehensive three-week seminar on rural development, hosted in China from October 8th to 30th, 2025. The program, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and organized by the Administration and Management Institute (AMI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, aimed to share China’s expertise and foster bilateral cooperation.

The seminar provided participants with an in-depth understanding of China’s strategies and achievements in agricultural modernization, poverty alleviation, and rural revitalization.

The diverse delegation included senior officials from key Solomon Islands ministries, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the Ministry of Rural Development, the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace & Ecclesiastical Affairs, Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, Commodities Export Marketing Authority, Kokonut Pacific Solomon Islands, other stakeholders and Youths.

“The successful completion of this seminar marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between our two nations,” said a spokesperson for the delegation. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce of the P.R. China and the Administration and Management Institute for their exceptional hospitality and knowledge sharing. We also acknowledge the Honorable Minister Franklyn Derek Wasi and the Permanent Secretary Dr. Samson Viulu for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock for their unwavering support in such bilateral program, and the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands for their invaluable facilitation.”

To complement the classroom learning, the delegation embarked on field trips to Nanjing City in Jiangsu Province and Hefei City in Anhui Province. These visits included tours of advanced agricultural science and technology demonstration parks, meetings with local agricultural officials, and observations of successful agribusinesses and cooperative models. The site visits were designed to provide tangible examples of the theories discussed and to identify potential avenues for future collaboration.

The Administration and Management Institute (AMI) is directly affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China. Its core missions include training officials and professionals within China’s agricultural system, as well as for developing countries. The AMI is also a leading centre for research and consultancy on critical issues such as agricultural laws and regulations, rural economy, social governance, and modern agricultural development.

This seminar underscores a shared commitment to strengthening agricultural ties and supporting sustainable rural development in the Solomon Islands through knowledge exchange and international partnership.

The training was requested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock through submission to the Embassy of China Office in Honiara last year and was approved by the Chinese Government for this year.

Similar training is expected to continue next year as part of the collaboration between MAL and the PRC Embassy Office in Honiara.
