Students Join SIBC’s 73rd Anniversary Celebration with Educational Visit
Students from several schools in Honiara had the opportunity to visit the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) headquarters in Rove today.
The visit was part of SIBC’s 73rd Anniversary celebration.
During the visit, students attended a presentation by SIBC staff about the broadcaster’s roles and responsibilities. They also had the chance to ask questions and interact with the team.
After the presentation, students toured key parts of the office, including the TV production room, the on-air studios and the library and archives department.
Many were excited to see live presenters in action and learn how programs are produced and broadcasted.

An official program was held later, which included a speech by SIBC Chief Executive Officer, Johnson Honimae, who acknowledged the contributions of both former and current staff.
“Our journey would not be possible without the dedication of our staff, and the support from local businesses, donor partners, and especially our followers,” Honimae said.
He added that ongoing public support has helped SIBC stay strong in its mission to inform, educate, and entertain.

The low-key event also saw the handover of the SIBC Customer Satisfaction Survey Report, conducted by Dignity Pasifik. The report provides feedback to help improve SIBC’s services and better understand its audience.
SIBC was officially established in 1976 under the Broadcasting Ordinance Act.
Since then, it has played a vital role in delivering news, entertainment, and public information to communities across the Solomon Islands.
