Telina Village to Enthrone its New Paramount Chief in 2026
By Mary Manelegua
Telina Village in Marovo Lagoon, Western Province, is preparing to enthrone its new paramount chief following the passing of its highly respected leader, the late Hon. Synder Rini, earlier this year.
Acting spokesperson for the village, Layton Timothy, said the successor was chosen and publicly announced by the late Rini after the passing of his wife.
“We sat down together after the death of his wife, and he made the declaration that his son, Jason Rini, will be his successor as the new chief of Telina Village,” Timothy said.
“Because of our allegiance, our support, and the respect we have for our chief, we will continue to support our new chief with the same level of commitment and respect we had for his late father. Even though he is young, we see the potential and vision he has for our village as the new paramount chief,” he added.
Timothy further noted that village elders will support Jason as he takes up his new role.
He also confirmed that leaders from Telina and surrounding communities from Viru to Gatokae are currently in Honiara to discuss and finalize the date of the enthronement ceremony.
Meanwhile, Jason Rini has confirmed that the ceremony to formally install him as paramount chief of Telina Village is scheduled for June 2026.
“We had a meeting last week with five village leaders to discuss the dates of the enthronement ceremony,” Jason said.
