The newly appointed MTGPEA Minister Hon. Mary Garu assumes ministerial duties

The new Minister for Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA)-Hon. Mary Garu has met all staff of the ministry as she commenced her ministerial duties today following her recent appointment.

In a brief welcome ceremony organized today at the ministry’s headquarter in Honiara, the new minister Hon. Garu said that she is privileged to be part of what the ministry is doing in accordance with the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) policy to achieve a meaningful peace and development in Solomon Islands and called on all ministry staff for needed support saying, “leading the ministry in dealing with issues that affect all Solomon Islanders is an honorable responsibility that needs support of all ministry staff.”

In his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary-Lottie Vaisekavea said the MTGPEA is honored to welcome her as the ministry’s new minister and pledged ministry’s full support for her new leadership to continue implementing GNUT priorities and policies.

The new minister will continue with the work of her predecessor Hon. Stephen Kumi left, leading the ministry in its transition from peacebuilding objectives to new development objectives, which are crucial for achieving sustainable peace and development in Solomon Islands as it addresses the root issue of conflict in the country.
