The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) is withdrawing its Participating Police Force (PPF) in Auki, Malaita Province.

An official ceremony was held this morning to commemorate the draw down.

Speaking during the ceremony, PPF Commander and guest of honour Greg Harrigan says RAMSI has done its part to ensure the RSIPF is capable of looking after Malaita.

“And I am sad to say that the PPF Police will withdraw from the Auki Police Post after being a part of your community for 12 years, but I am happy because I feel that RAMSI’s presence is no longer required because of the support, training, infrastructure, and assets have been delivered to the police force that is ready to take full responsibility for Malaita.”

Commander Harrigan assures – RAMSI is not abandoning Malaita.

He says they will continue to assist the police in Auki with the PPF Provincial policing program.
