Students in class in the Solomon Islands

Teachers’ absenteeism concerns arises in North Malaita.

SIBC Stringer, Mr John Kiri reported, parents and some teachers are worried, teaching staff in the region are always absent from classes.

Kiri said they were also worried as semester two had commenced and a good number of staff were yet to report to their respective schools.

He said children’s right to proper education was being deprived in the area.

“Parents are calling on the Malaita provincial education authority to find out why teachers are not attending classes,” he said.

” They are also calling on school administrations to discipline such teachers, and not practice Wantok businesses, because this issue is depriving the rights of our children and it must stop.”
