The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services celebrates the graduation ceremony of its new middle level Meteorological Technician today.

The graduands undertake a twenty-nine week course since last year to be Meteorological observers within the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Melchior Mataki said the new technicians will provide much needed weather monitoring roles.

“We decide on weather developments carried out in this country, but we can also play a preventative role and that is the reason why I said meteorological observation work is not routine work. We are doing preventative work, we are safeguarding this country from natural causes that can have detrimental effects or impacts on the lives of people,” he said.

Mr. Mataki applauds hard work by staff to provide training to the technicians.

He adds the four technicians are preparing to take on their duties in Lata, Auki, Renbel and Lata MET stations.
