The 4th Grereo Festival 2025, has officially commenced in Honiara today.

The event, themed “Rooted in Culture, Rising as One: Isabel Youth in Celebration,” aims to showcase the unique cultural heritage of Isabel Province through traditional performances, chants, and cultural dances.

In an interview with local media, Mr. Benedict Horuna, Culture Officer of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, highlighted the importance of cultural festivals within the Solomon Islands culture and tourism sector.

“Culture is a very important tourism attraction, “if we fully utilize our cultural value, it will also contribute a lot to the revenue and improve our country’s economy.” Horuna stated.

He added that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in partnership with Tourism Solomon, is developing a national events calendar and emphasized the importance of including events like the Grereo Festival.

Meanwhile, Event Manager Audrey Awao emphasized the significance of this year’s theme for the youth and the Isabel community in Honiara.

“The theme is very simple but has a lot of meaning to the youths and the people of Isabel Province,” Mrs. Awao explained.

She also adds that the theme’s intention is to ground the youth in their culture and traditions, unite youth, parents, and guardians through diverse cultural expressions, and celebrate their collective identity as Isabelians.

Awao noted that the Grereo Festival provides a unique opportunity for Isabel youths and families to celebrate their diversity.
