94% of Seats Declared so far in the Joint Election

About 94 percent of all the seats has been declared so far across the three elections.

Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner Jasper Highwood Anisi confirmed to the media today.

Anisi provided a breakdown of the results for each of the three elections.

“We are near to the end of this count and about 94 percent have been declared so far across the three elections. To further break down the results, 94 percent of the parliamentary seats have been declared, with the latest being the declaration of the Member of Parliament-elect for the West Guadalcanal Constituency.”

“For the Provincial Assembly, 95% of seats have been declared, and for Honiara City Council, all seats (or 100%) have been declared,” CEO Anisi said.

Anisi also highlighted the voter turnout, stating it averages around 80 percent so far. He mentioned that few constituencies, such as Shortland’s and South Vella La Vella in Western Province, did not record any rejected votes at the completion of the count.

Additionally, Anisi confirmed that eight women candidates have been declared winners so far in this joint election: three for parliamentary seats, three for provincial seats, and two for the Honiara City Council.

SIBC News understands that more than Six Thousand (6,000) electoral officials were recruited for the Joint Election.
