The Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Peter Shanel Agovaka has said the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government has put a policy under the Ministry of Home Affairs to improve the existing provincial sporting facilities and to help build sporting stadiums in the provinces and Honiara.

The Minister made the remarks while delivering his keynote address at the 2014 Telekom S-League Awards night in Honiara recently.

He said the DCC Government would like to see and encourage sports in the provincial centres and in Honiara.

“Our policy is simple, we would like to see and encourage sports in the provinces as well as Honiara City, Which is our biggest urban center, so our policy is to assist the existing sporting facilities as well as build new sporting stadiums within Honiara as well as in the provinces.”

Mr Shanel adds the DCC Government will also review and assist the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands and the National Sports Council.

“One of the other policy that we had is also to review and to assist the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI). We also have a policy to assist the National Sports Council which is the umbrella under the Ministry of Home Affairs, so these policies alone spells out the government’s aims and objectives in trying to help sportsmen and women in this country to achieve their objectives and to achieve their aims in playing whatever sports they do.”
