The Joint Civil Society Groups and Concerned Citizens have called on Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo and his government to stop politicising St. Barbara and the future of the Gold Ridge Mine.

In a statement, the group’s Interim Chairman and Acting CEO of ANSI Barnabas Henson say, the call is important as direct political involvement in such major investment projects will only discourage foreign investment interest and economic progress in the country.

He says, full participation and involvement of landowners in the Gold Ridge mine project is crucial for any future operation of the mine as they are the resource owners.

Mr Henson adds, while there is need now to make a complete review and revision of all agreements between all parties, the Government needs to be transparent on the matter to avoid any potential backlashes.

SIBC News understands the call came after the Gold Ridge Landowners Council recently made a submission to the government.
