Minister Rexson Ramofafia leads Solomon Islands delegation to the 81st UN ESCAP

The Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination, Hon. Rexson Ramofafia leads the Solomon Islands delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand.  

The high-level meeting, themed “Regional Cooperation for Resilient and Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific” will bring together government leaders, policymakers, and development partners to discuss critical strategies for advancing inclusive and sustainable growth across the region.  

Minister Ramofafia will deliver the Solomon Islands Country Statement, highlighting the nation’s priorities, challenges, and opportunities in achieving resilient development. 

His address will emphasize the importance of regional collaboration, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure in supporting the Solomon Islands’ long-term development goals.  

“This session is a vital platform to strengthen partnerships and advocate for solutions that align with our national development Strategy 2016 – 2035.

“We are committed to working with our regional counterparts to address shared challenges, including climate change adaptation, economic recovery, and sustainable resource management,” Ramofafia said.

The 81st ESCAP Session will also feature discussions on digital transformation, green financing, and disaster risk reduction—key areas for the Solomon Islands as it advances its development priorities under the National Development Strategy.  

Minister Ramofafia will engage in side events including bilateral meetings with regional and international partners to explore opportunities for technical and financial support.

The week-long United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) is held from 21st to 26th April 2025.
