Peace restored between parties following brutal killing of young Stephanus
A reconciliation ceremony was held yesterday Monday to restore peace and relationship between parties following the alleged murder of a 24 year old man from Makira Ulawa province over the weekend in Honiara.
The ceremony held at the Central Police station brought together the MPs for East Makira Franklyn Derek Wasi and West Makira Derek Manuari and MP for West Kwaio Claudius Tei’ifi representing the suspects of the alleged murder incident.
A sum of $10,000 and two shell money, Tafuliae and Baniau were presented to the relatives of the deceased.
This is to restore peace and bring back normalcy between the two parties pending further compensation for the loss of life.
“This settlement is to settle the tension between the two parties and not to pay the life of the young man whom we lost,” Hon. Wasi explained.
He said the settlement may be small but it is from the heart of the community representing the suspects.
He added the reconciliation now allows both parties to move freely and continue with their daily business while police investigation into the matter continues.
The young deceased, the late Stephanus Wainamo was a student preparing to return to the Philippines to continue his studies of becoming a pilot.
It was alleged that he was murdered at the Jacob’s Ladder in the Milestone area within the Mamulele area in east Honiara on Saturday.
Police say two suspects attacked the deceased with stones and another used a screwdriver to further harm the deceased.
Five suspects including a female were arrested on 17 May, 2025.
SIBC News was made aware that another suspect was arrested at the Panatina valley in Honiara yesterday while another one is still at large.
Assistant Commissioner of Crime and Intelligence Ms. Patricia Leta said the Serious Crime Unit under the National Criminal Investigation Department, supported by Naha police, is investigating the murder incident.
She assured the family of the deceased and the public that the police are committed to bringing those responsible to face the full force of law.
