South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Solomon Islands Marks Milestone: SBD $200 Million in Loans Disbursed
Honiara, Solomon Islands – South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Solomon Islands proudly announces a major milestone: SBD $200 million in loans disbursed since the organization’s founding.
This achievement reflects SPBD’s unwavering commitment to advancing financial inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods for families across underserved communities in the Solomon Islands.
Elizabeth Lae is a member of the Mbaranamba 2 Centre. Now in her 11th loan cycle with SPBD, she operates a Canteen & taxi service. Her story is one of thousands that illustrate the transformative power of access to microfinance.
Raymond McCarthy, General Manager of SPBD Solomon Islands, led the milestone celebration.
“We are honored to celebrate this SBD $200 million milestone alongside the hardworking women and men we serve. This achievement also reflects the dedication of our team and the unwavering support of our partners here in the Solomon Islands and around the globe.”
Together, we are proving that when women have access to the right resources, they can uplift not only their families but entire communities. We look forward to expanding this impact in the years ahead.”
Greg Casagrande, Founder and CEO of SPBD Microfinance, added: “This milestone is more than just a number—it’s a reflection of the trust our members place in us and the determination they show every day.
With each loan, we are investing in women who are investing in their families and their communities. That’s how we create lasting, generational impact.”
‘Providing Meaningful Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow’ SPBD Solomon Islands offers a group-based lending program that enables women to launch and expand income-generating businesses, while also supporting critical household needs such as education, and home improvements.
Many members are now in their fourteenth or fifteenth loan cycle—testament to both the sustainability of their enterprises and the growing financial resilience of their families.
Crucial to SPBD’s impact is its commitment to financial education: every member must complete training that builds knowledge, confidence, and capacity in managing finances and planning for the future.
SPBD is also proud to support outbound seasonal workers in the Solomon Islands with a tailored financial scheme that provides essential funds for pre-departure costs and helps families meet expenses during the initial transition period before remittances begin to flow.
On Friday 27 June, SPBD Solomon Islands will Celebrate its first ever Business Women of the Year awards ceremony at the St. Barnabas Hall, Cathedral Church of St Barnabas, Honiara to highlight the incredible success of its membership over the past 13 years.
