The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has issued a 14 days notice to a labor-based contractor responsible for the Makira Western Road, in Makira Ulawa Province.

A statement from MID’s Communication Department says Director Engineering, Harry Rini confirmed the notice was issued to Eastern Development Agency for non performance since the company was given the contract for routine, rehabilitation and improvement works on Makira Western Road.

He says the notice dated 30th March 2015 gives the contractor 14 days to provide remedial action which needs to be approved by the engineer responsible for Makira Province.

Mr Rini says whether labor or machine based contractors, MID will begin to enforce contract requirements.

He says Eastern Development Agency must now take action or receive further notices that will lead to termination of contract if requirements are not met.

Director Rini reveals this following a news article about the condition of the Makira Western Road and failure by the approved contractor to meet contractual obligations.
