Kukum Clinic operational next Monday

The Kukum Area Health Centre in East Honiara will resume providing health services for communities in Honiara starting next week.

This follows today’s  ceremony where the Australian Government officially handed over the renovated Kukum Clinic to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the Honiara City Council (HCC).

The refurbishment project costs the Australian Government over two million dollars.

Minister of Health and Medical Services, Hon. Dr. Paul Popora Bosawai, officially declared the Kukum Clinic reopened to serve communities in Honiara.

“With great pride as your Minister of Health, I now have the honour to officially declare that Kukum Health Centre is now open for health services,” he said.

Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, announced that the Australian Government also provided more than $300,000 for clinic equipment.

He added that the funding will cover the purchase of new furniture, medical equipment and computers to complement and replace old equipment, as well as support staff to deliver high-quality health services.

The Kukum Clinic is one of the health facilities that the Australian Government supports in Solomon Islands, continuing to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The clinic will offer the following health services:

  • Maternal and Child Health including antenatal and postnatal care
  • Reproductive Health and Newborn Care
  • Ultrasound services
  • Vaccination and immunization programs for both clinics and schools
  • Care for Non-Communicable Diseases including screening and treatment
  • Treatment for communicable diseases including malaria, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, dengue, and HIV
  • Primary care screening, refraction, and referrals
  • Trauma care
  • Outpatient services including doctor consultations and referrals
  • Community outreach for patients unable to visit the clinic
  • Extended operating hours with overlap shifts
