The Central Islands Provincial Government has signed a partnership agreement with the Win Win Company, as part of an investment program for the province.
Speaking to SIBC News, Member of Provincial Assembly for Lavukala ward in Russell Islands, Hon. Dennis Akorea says the areas of focus will be on Agriculture, fisheries and tourism.
Hon. Akorea said according to their program, they will start with Agriculture and they would like to kick start in Russell Islands, as it well known for its high production of copra.
He said early this week they visited Russell Islands and held a public meeting purposely to inform the former workers of the Russell islands Plantation Limited on the proposed investment program.
He explained that the plan was to establish several buying centers for copra.
However, Hon. Akorea stated that with the current issue at hand in terms of the ownership of the land, which they are very much aware of, they will not put any buying Centre in any of the RIPEL’s land.
“We have informed them that there will be buying Centres in Louna, Alokan, and the old Camp site so that those can serve them to buy their copra,” he added.
He said the main intention behind these is to help the people by providing them buying centers that are close to them as it is very costly to transport their copra to Honiara.
“The intention of the provincial government is to help empower our people not only to sustain their livelihood but also this can help them to venture in to other small businesses that may also contribute to the provincial government revenue,”.
Meanwhile, Hon. Akorea said as part of the investment program, they will also establish other copra buying Centers in Ngella islands.
