Construction on the key bridges in Kolofe, Bira, and Su’u Harbor is progressing steadily, with significant milestones achieved at each site.

The projects are at various stages of development, but all are moving forward toward completion, supported by ongoing mobilization, earthworks, and structural installations.

In an interview with SIBC News, Lawrence Nodua, National Communications Specialist for the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP 2), provided updates on the progress.

At the Kolofe Bridge, Nodua reported that half of the Bluemont bag and concrete support work has been completed, while the placement of gabions is now finished.

“Kolofe 2 Bridge is undergoing embankment filling, with key materials delivered during a barge mobilization in early September,” he said.

Regarding the Bira Bridge, Nodua noted that embankment and sub-base work has been completed between the 170 to 230-meter mark, with ongoing work continuing between 40 to 135 meters.

At the Su’u Harbor Bridge, two deck panels have already been installed. The next phase involves securing the decks, completing abutment connections, and preparing for final surfacing.

“We’re seeing steady and coordinated progress across all sites,” Nodua said. “Each step brings us closer to improving access and connectivity for Malaita Province.”

He added that the steady advancement of these projects reflects continued investment in infrastructure and regional connectivity.

With critical phases either completed or underway, each site is making solid progress toward its construction goals—promising improved transportation and enhanced economic opportunities once completed.
