Solomon Islands Attends 2025 Annual World Bank and IMF Meetings in Washington D.C

The Minister for Finance and Treasury, Hon. Rexon Ramofafia, is leading a government delegation to the 2025 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., USA.

The meetings bring together global financial leaders, policymakers, and development partners to discuss pressing economic challenges and opportunities.

Minister Ramofafia this week commenced bilateral discussions with senior executives of the World Bank and IMF, focusing on greater coordination during economic assessments to ensure policy recommendations align with the Government’s needs and priorities.

He also requested technical assistance to strengthen the Statistics Office and support Mining Tax Regime Reform and Sovereign Fund Regime creation.

The Minister is scheduled to meet with the World Bank Group Vice President for Asia and the Pacific later this week to discuss securing up to USD$20 million in direct budget support under the Development Operation program.

On October 13th, Minister Ramofafia delivered a keynote address at the Pacific Resilience Facility High-Level Talanoa event, a capitalization mobilization event aimed at raising capital for the facility, which is the region’s response to bridge gaps in Climate Finance and build resilience.

The Solomon Islands delegation includes the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Luke Forau, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, representatives from the Central Bank of Solomon Islands, and the Permanent Mission of Solomon Islands to the United Nations.

The Annual Meetings offer a critical opportunity for the Solomon Islands to engage with global partners, reaffirm its development priorities, and strengthen relationships with key international financial institutions.
