CHC boosts Mataks Futsal Club’s preparation ahead of regional competition in Fiji

The Central Honiara Constituency (CHC) office provided $15,000 on Tuesday this week to support the Mataks Futsal Club’s upcoming participation in the 2025 OFC Futsal Club Championship in Fiji next week.

The financial assistance aims to enable the team to meet its financial obligations.

“This support is timely and a major boost to our preparation,” Team Manager Thompson Mae said while expressing profound gratitude to the CHC office under the leadership of Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo.

Mr. Mae further thanked the constituency office and MP Lilo for their continued support in community development through the empowerment of young people in sports.

“Your support in this regard is seen as your contribution to community development within Central Honiara Constituency,” he stated.

The team Manager also assured the constituency office of the team’s commitment, support, and close collaboration in the years ahead, as the constituency office, under the leadership of Hon. Lilo, continues to serve the people of Central Honiara.

Meanwhile, Constituency Development Officer (CDO) Paul Rexford, on behalf of Honourable Lilo, Member of Parliament, expressed the constituency office’s sincere gratitude for the team’s efforts.

He said that the constituency office is pleased to extend its support, reaffirming its dedication to fostering youth development within the Central Honiara community.

“The team’s participation at this regional level is commendable, as they are not only representing the Central Honiara but also serving as ambassadors of the Solomon Islands and representing the country.”

Mr. Rexford further emphasized that supporting and empowering young people through sports is an important component of broader community development approaches that the constituency office will continue to support.

“Youth involvement in sports not only promotes physical health and well-being but also fosters essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, leadership, and resilience. Additionally, youth participation in sports serves as a positive channel to divert young people away from antisocial behaviours and, at the same time, fosters a sense of belonging and purpose,” he said.

He added that the constituency office remains committed to providing ongoing support to initiatives that empower young people, recognizing that investing in youth development is vital to building a prosperous and unified society.

“By supporting the active participation of our youth in sports, the office aims to nurture their potential, enabling them to become responsible and contributing members of the community,” CDO Rexford said.

The CDO also acknowledged the national government through the MRD for its ongoing commitment and support of the CDF program, which ensures that constituency offices are equipped to deliver government services to communities across the Solomon Islands, thereby enhancing livelihoods.

CDO Rexford, on behalf of MP Lilo and the constituents of Central Honiara, also extends best wishes to the team as they prepare to represent the constituency and the country at this prestigious regional competition.

The team will leave for Fiji next Wednesday.
