Solomon Islands female long distance bullet, Sharon Firisua has last night raised the national flag higher than the rest in Port Moresby’s Pacific Games.

An unmatched Ms Firisua claimed a gold medal after out-loping all her opponents in the women’s 5000 metres.

She clocked a time of 18 minutes 20 seconds, setting a new record for the Pacific event.

Rolland Ko’ofuli reports.

“The country’s golden girl Sharon Firisua has won yet another gold medal for the country in the 5000 metres event in front of a packed Sir John Gaius stadium. Close behind to win silver and bronze were two athletes from the host country, Papua New Guinea.”

A number of local commentators say so far, it has been a women’s Pacific Games for Solomon Islands.
