Gizo Hospital has recorded no major emergencies from clinics and villages this Christmas and festive season, though staff remain on alert.

The hospital reports receiving only minor fracture cases resulting from festive season activities and games taking place in villages.
Gizo Hospital Assistant Director of Nursing Clinical, Henrietta Jagilly, said the hospital has been quiet over Christmas and the festive period, but remains vigilant.

“We don’t have any major emergencies so far this Christmas and festive season,” she said.

In the theatre, doctors and nurses have been attending to emergency cases as some staff members are on holiday. However, the nursing team continues to operate normally.

“We make sure that we have enough staff to run the hospital throughout December,” she added.

She explained that with many people from Honiara holidaying in their villages in Western Province, the nursing team has prepared accordingly.

“We just prepare; we don’t scale down our operation,” she said.

Despite no major referrals, Gizo Hospital has received some health cases from outer islands and Choiseul Province this festive season.

“We anticipate referrals will come in because more activities and games happen in the villages,” she added.

Jagilly revealed that Gizo Hospital has adequate medical supplies for the festive season thanks to careful management by their doctors.

She urged people in Western Province to stay safe as the country prepares to welcome 2026.
