Ambassador Cornelius Walegerea presents Credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates

Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) His Excellency Cornelius Walegerea, presented a copy of his letter of Credentials to the Assistant Undersecretary for Protocol Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, His Excellency Saif Abdulla Alshamisi, on Wednesday, 3 April 2024.

Upon receiving the copy of Credentials, His Excellency Saif Abdulla Alshamisi warmly welcomed His Excellency Walegerea to the UAE and wished him success in his duties in enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the UAE and Solomon Islands.

His Excellency Saif Abdulla Alshamisi further emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in the areas of mutual interests including business and trade, political relations, and people to people connection, with the need to shift in other areas to foster relationships between the two countries going forward. 

Ambassador Walegerea acknowledged the warm welcome and thanked the Government and the people of the UAE for the kind facilitation and warm hospitality accorded to him and his family since their arrival on Tuesday, 26 March 2024.

He stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2010, the relationship has strengthened over the years and with the establishment of Solomon Islands Embassy in the UAE, this will boost the relationship and engagement of both countries.

He also took the opportunity when presenting the copy of his credentials to His Excellency Saif Abdulla Alshamisi to re-affirm Solomon Islands Government commitments to work together with the UAE government on a number of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. 

Meanwhile the Ambassador further highlighted the importance of Solomon Islands permanent presence and engagement in the UAE as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. 

With the presentation of the copy of the Credentials, Ambassador Walegerea as Solomon Islands first Ambassador to the UAE will be able to meet with all government ministers, including local and federal government officials except with the President of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and the Crown Prince. 

He will also present the Original Credentials to the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at a later date this year with other Ambassadors.
