Biosecurity training and information session held for SICCI stakeholders

Biosecurity Solomon Islands (BSI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) recently hosted a successful Biosecurity Training & Information Session at the Mendana Hotel in Honiara.

The session, held in collaboration with the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce (SICCI) and the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labor and Immigration, aimed to enhance understanding of biosecurity measures and their impact on imports, exports, and industry practices in Solomon Islands.

Chief Biosecurity Officer for Market Access and Trade, Luke Kiriau, facilitated the session, highlighting the importance of biosecurity in protecting Solomon Islands’ borders from invasive pests and diseases.

“Understanding biosecurity requirements, procedures, and processes is crucial for businesses involved in trade,” he said.

The session provided valuable insights into biosecurity functions and strategies to address Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) challenges, supporting businesses in the trade industry.

Biosecurity Solomon Islands (BSI) is mandated to manage the biosecurity risks associated with the movement of goods (trade) and people into and out of Solomon Islands.

Importers

Wholesalers, retailers, farmers, plantation owners, pet owners, growers, agriculture, research, all live plants or animals & machinery or vehicles. Special import conditions can be developed for uncommon imports.

 Exporters

Producers of plant or animal products, export agents, phytosanitary or sanitary certificates for compliance with importing country requirements. Also, those who wish to have export conditions developed for their product.
