CONSULTATION LED TO FORMATION OF “S.I. SOLIDARITY FOR WEST PAPUA”
A one-day consultation to discuss and highlight issues concerning West Papua’s struggle for freedom and independence has led to the formation of the “Solomon Islands Solidarity for West Papua Freedom”.
The consultation was jointly organised and hosted by the Pacific Council of Churches and the Anglican Church of Melanesia last Friday, in Honiara.
Membership of the “Solomon Islands Solidarity for West Papua Freedom” comprises of the churches, organisations and groups present during the consultation.
A committee was set up to administer and execute planned programs and activities in the lead up to the Melanesian Spearhead Group meeting in Honiara in July 2015.
The Committee will also formulate strategies for ongoing advocacy campaigns for the freedom of West Papua.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Solomon Island Solidarity for West Papua Freedom Father Nigel Kelaepa says the consultation has reiterated support for a call made by Churches to actively support the political independence struggle of the people of West Papua.
