First win for Ghupo FC

First win for Ghupo FC

By Taromane Martin

Ghupo FC has secured their first win of their maiden S-League season campaign with a 2-1 win over Laugu United FC today, at the Lawson Tama Stadium.

The William Tino Ghupo FC coached side had to fight back in the second half after Ronald Kivolyn’s goal in the 57th minute gave Laugu the lead, following a goalless first half.

Two goals from Jeff Teika in the 59th minute from the penalty spot leveled the match before he found the crunching winner in the third minute of extra time, to secure his team’s first win of the season.

“Thank you to the boys for their hard work because today’s win is a result of that. It’s a very relieving win for us but we know we still have areas to improve on,” Assistant Coach Greezer Pongi said.

The win pushes Ghupo FC up into 8th spot on the table, sitting above Waneagu United FC, Juniper Tree FC, Laugu United FC and Marist FC, who picked up a 6-3 defeat to defending champions Central Coast FC in the day’s main match.

The win sees Central Coast leading the table with nine points, equal with KOSSA FC which sits in second, Honiara City FC in third with six points, followed by Southerns United FC with five points, Green Shield FC with four points, Malaita Kings FC in 6th spot while SOSA FC occupies 7th spot on the table.
