Holy Name of Mary Seminary holds 2025 graduation ceremony
The Holy Name of Mary Seminary celebrated its annual graduation on Saturday, marking another milestone in the formation journey of future Church leaders.
Three graduates completed their seventh year of studies in philosophy and theology: Sr. Jeanear Nauta of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul (Auki Diocese), Br. Chris Ramosiua of the Gizo Diocese, and Br. Levi Sugahare of the Archdiocese of Honiara.
The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Mass led by Rev. Fr. Peter Chele, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Honiara, together with priests and professors of the Seminary.
In his address, Fr. Thomas, the Rector of Holy Name of Mary Seminary, reflected on the Latin proverb “Non scholae, sed vitae discimus” which means “We do not learn for school, but for life.”
He reminded the graduates that learning is a lifelong journey, saying:
“Skills and knowledge must be constantly renewed to help transform the world. The purpose of learning goes beyond exams or certificates; it prepares us to face life’s challenges and to serve others with wisdom and humility.”
Fr. Thomas encouraged the graduates to balance academic achievement with real-life application, noting that,
“The learning process should never end at graduation. We must continue to grow, to become better persons not only for ourselves but for the mission and the people entrusted to us.”

During his remarks, Vicar General Fr. Peter Chele emphasized that the Seminary serves all three dioceses, Auki, Gizo, and Honiara, and that each diocese shares responsibility in supporting the formation of seminarians.
He posed a reflective question to the graduates:
“Am I serious in my response to God’s call? Do I know the challenges of my diocese, and how will I respond to them?”
He reminded them that seminary formation is a collaboration between the Seminary, the dioceses, and the seminarians themselves to nurture true discipleship and priestly commitment.
Fr. Lawrence, Dean of Studies, also congratulated the graduates, explaining that this year’s cohort received a Diploma in Theology, as they did not present a thesis for the Bachelor’s degree.
He added that the Seminary’s mission extends beyond academics:
“This institution forms not just the mind but the whole person intellectually, spiritually, and socially for life in service to the community and the Church.”
The 2025 graduation of Holy Name of Mary Seminary stands as a testament to the ongoing dedication of the Catholic Church in the Solomon Islands to form men and women who are ready to serve faithfully and lead with compassion.
