By Lachlan Eddie
Four local journalists who are currently in Australia as part of the Solomon Islands Media Emerging Leaders Country Press Australia Placement, under the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS) anticipate bringing back knowledge gained from Australian newspapers to their respective newsrooms.
The journalists departed the country earlier this week and have already joined the newspapers where they will work and experience journalism in Australia.
The journalists are:
- Loretta Brigidia Manele – Island Sun
- Elton Lonaratha – Island Sun
- Agnes Menanopo – Solomon Star
- Solomon Lofana – Solomon Star
Loretta and Agnes will undertake their work attachment with the Wangaratta Chronicle, while Solomon and Elton will be with the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
Speaking to SIBC News in an interview, Loretta said they will definitely bring back knowledge gained from these Australian newspapers to their respective media organizations in the country.
“We look forward to seeing how this program goes and to learning as much as we can and taking back home with us to our newsrooms so we can improve the way we do reporting and enhance the way we operate as journalists in our newsrooms,” she said.
Loretta expressed their excitement and gratitude for being selected for this program.
“All four of us are very grateful, and we feel very privileged to be chosen to be in this program,” she added.
PACMAS staff in Australia have expressed excitement in meeting the journalists in Melbourne, before they head to their respective workplaces .
Meanwhile, The Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) congratulated these four talented and emerging journalists, noting that their attachment work will strengthen media credibility in the country.
SIBC News understands that this career work attachment program is also part of efforts to upskill journalists in Solomon Islands.
