KUKUM HIGHWAY PROJECT STARTS THIS MONTH

The $213 million Kukum Highway Project commences this month.

Kukum Highway project is a partnership between ‘Japan International Cooperation Agency’ as grant agency for the Government of Japan and Government of Solomon Islands through the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, MID.

MID Permanent Secretary, Mr Henry Murray updates, a meeting to set the date for work to actually kick-off is planned for tomorrow.

“A kick-off meeting will be on the 6th of this month, that Wednesday this week where all stakeholders will be invited to attend and be briefed on when the actual work will start as well as to inform them as to when the groundbreaking ceremony will start and how soon. At the same time, there’ll be an introduction of the project team, updates on SIG obligation and implementation updates and other related matters of the project.”

PS Murray says partners include the Honiara City Council, Chamber of Commerce and partner representatives.

The construction phase is planned to run from this month to November 2018.

Mr Murray says all phases of the project is up to date.

“I think the project implementation is on schedule according to plan and I think it will start well as well as ends well according to schedule.”
