The Minister for Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) Hon. Samuel Manetoali will lead the Solomon Islands Government delegation to the Conference of Parties (COP21) in Paris, France.

A government statement today says the delegation includes the Minister of Public Service John Dean Kuku, officials from the Ministry of Environment and the Prime Minister’s Office.

It says officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Ministry of National Planning and Aid Coordination, Ministry of Forestry and Research, Honiara City Council and the Republic of China on Taiwan will also be part of the Solomon Islands delegation.

Meanwhile, Hon. Manetoali will also be representing Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare at the summit’s event for leaders – heads of states and governments.

This follows the Prime Minister’s decision to remain in the country for Parliament.

This is to enable the Prime Minister to focus government preparations of the 2016 budget and other pressing national issues.

COP is an annual meeting of all nations that make up the United Nations Framework on Climate Change – 195 nations in total – this is the 21st meeting.
