NEW SKILLS PROGRAM TO SUPPORT JOBS IN SOLOMON ISLANDS
Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing quality skills and training opportunities in Solomon Islands with the country launch of Pacific Australia Skills, a new regional skills program designed to strengthen training and create sustainable job pathways across the Pacific.
Australia’s Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, Senator the Hon Nita Green, launched the program in Honiara alongside Solomon Islands’ Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, Honourable Tozen Leokana.
The launch event was also attended by government representatives, training institutions, employers and development partners.
Pacific Australia Skills marks a new chapter in Australia’s longstanding partnership with Solomon Islands, focusing on skills development, workforce readiness, and creating sustainable pathways for young people and workers. The program is guided by local priorities to ensure meaningful and lasting benefits for communities.
The program builds on nearly two decades of collaboration under the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), which supported 2,186 Solomon Islanders to earn full qualifications, and a further 5,843 to complete short courses and micro-credentials.

Assistant Minister Green has reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to advancing quality skills and training opportunities in Solomon Islands.
In Solomon Islands, Pacific Australia Skills will work closely with national institutions such as the Solomon Islands Tertiary Education and Skills Authority, the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce, training providers, employers, and communities to align training with labour market needs.
“Pacific Australia Skills is about investing in skills and investing in people. Investing in the future builders, trainers, careers, electricians, hospitality workers, entrepreneurs, and skilled professionals who will guide Solomon Islands in the years ahead,” Assistant Minister Green said.
“The program in Solomon Islands will continue to reflect our shared priorities, as we work with Solomon Islands partners to help you build your skills system, your workforce, and your future.
“Australia is committed to supporting your leadership every step of the way.”
