Newly elected Speaker of the National Parliament Mr. Ajilon Jasper Nasiu says the 10th Parliament has created history by electing him the member of a minority group to be the speaker of the National Parliament.

In a brief media conference after his election yesterday, Mr Nasiu says it will go down in the country’s record books that Rennell and Bellona Province has been entrusted the high office in the 10th Parliament.

“This is part of history and I really appreciate it because the fact that you know so many members from the bigger island provinces have supported my election really shows that there’s no discrimination. I come from a small minority group, but I am so happy that the bigger groups have supported my nomination and have elected me to be the Speaker of Parliament.”

Mr Nasiu adds the message is loud and clear – there is no discrimination in the House.
