By Eliza Kukutu

North Guadalcanal Constituency will be launching its 12 Green Economic Zones (GEZ) on Wednesday this week at its temporary site in North Guadalcanal.

The launching will see the handing over of 12 tractors to boost agricultural development and food security in the region.

The initiative is funded through the Constituency Development Fund’s productive sector at a cost of 1.3 million dollars.

Additional support was sought from the Ministry of Infrastructure Developments National Transport Fund.

North Guadalcanal Constituency Development Officer, Simon Ngoli.

Speaking to SIBC News, Constituency Development Officer, Simon Ngoli said the initiative is set to significantly improve agriculture production within the constituency.

” This will enhance agriculture activities in the constituency. Communities within the zones will receive cash benefits and it will also boost agriculture activities for farmers.”

With the 12 zones, an additional zone was also set up which is considered a Corporative Society, where individuals working at the Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL) can take part in the constituency’s development programs.

Ngoli said with the establishment of the zones, each zone is expected to develop initiatives where money can be generated to sustain the communities within the zones.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for North Guadalcanal Constituency, Dr. Paul Popora Bosawai said he looks forward to launching the zones.

He encourages constituents to work together to ensure the effective management of the zones.
