Police arrest and charged husband for attacking wife
Police have arrested a 35 year old husband after attacking his wife with a bush knife at Panarui village in South Choiseul.
Police alleged that the husband got angry at his wife for not preparing food for him after drinking kwaso (homebrew) with his friends.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa said the suspect was very aggressive and attacked his wife on the neck.
Relatives of the victim intervened and stopped the husband from further attacking and assisted the victim to the Sasamunga hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect was formally charged for unlawful wounding.
He was on bail and will appear before court on 7 October 2024.
“Such action is inhuman and I condemn it. Such action should have no space in our communities.”
“A husband should respect and support his wife in looking after his family. He should be responsible and provide for his family.”
“Domestic violence is a crime therefore I urge members of the public to support the police in dealing with it and discourage social issues that triggered such incidents from happening,” Superintendent Pogesopa said.
