Police arrest five suspects for alleged larceny of $1.8 million at Churivunga village in Central Guadalcanal.
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Gold Ridge Mining Limited (GRML) have arrested five suspects for larceny of $1.8 million at Churivunga village in Central Guadalcanal.
Operation Commander at GRML, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operations Mr. Mathias Lenialu said the huge amount of money and about 11 grams of gold were removed between 12am and 2am on 27 November 2025.
DC Lenialu said the five suspects were arrested yesterday, last night, and this morning with a recovery of about 900 plus thousand dollars. Investigation into the larceny incident is ongoing.
Mr. Lenialu said officers deployed to the scene recovered an empty box believed to have contained the stolen money. The box was discovered beside a stream below the village, suggesting an attempt by the suspects to dispose of evidence while fleeing.
He said the RSIPF reassures the public that the matter is being dealt with as a high priority, and all investigative avenues are being pursued.
