Choiseul Provincial Premier Tongoua Tabe has been ousted as premier following a Motion of No Confidence today.

The motion was moved by the Member of Provincial Assembly for Senga, Harrison Pitakaka.

Choiseul Province Clerk Christopher Makone confirmed this to SIBC News.

” Just to inform the people of Choiseul and the country that Premier Tongoua Tabe, Member for Ward 1 has been voted out in a motion of no confidence today. When called for divisional vote for the motion we have 14 members in favour of the motion and only 1 opposing the motion.”

“This has been a case of 7 weeks of political impasse for the province and is finally resolved in the floor of the assembly where the motion is carried,” Pitakaka said.

Mr. Pitakaka also confirmed nomination is now open and an election for a new Premier is scheduled for Tuesday 12th March 2024.

Tabe who is the Provincial Member for Ward 1, Wagina was elected as Premier in January last year.

SIBC News understands, allegations filed under the motion include gross misuse or neglect of powers.
