Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele Departs Honiara for International Engagements

Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele departed Honiara this afternoon for international engagements overseas. He will represent the Solomon Islands at two key global forums—the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France, and the OPEC Fund Development Forum in Vienna, Austria.

The UN Ocean Conference, scheduled for June 9 to 13, brings together world leaders, scientists, and civil society to address the health of the world’s oceans and promote sustainable ocean governance.

Prime Minister Manele will speak on behalf of the Solomon Islands, advocating for stronger action on marine protection, sustainable fisheries, and climate resilience—key issues for Pacific Island nations.

Following the Ocean Conference, the Prime Minister will travel to Austria to attend the OPEC Fund Development Forum on June 17. The forum will focus on international partnerships for sustainable development, innovation, and governance. Prime Minister Manele is expected to highlight the Solomon Islands’ development priorities and the importance of global cooperation in tackling shared challenges.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by senior government officials for the duration of these official engagements.

During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Frederick Kologeto will serve as Acting Prime Minister.
