Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele is scheduled to participate in several overseas engagements next month.

Prime Minister Manele will be attending high-level international meetings, including the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco and the Third United Nations Oceans Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France.

UNOC3 will take place from 9 to 13 June to accelerate action to conserve and sustainably use the ocean to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 14.

He announced his travel plans in parliament today, Tuesday.

“In terms of my international engagements, I will attend the Blue Economy and Finance Forum on June 7-8 in Monaco.”

Manele explained that the Monaco Forum is a special event of UNOC3 which aims to promote a more sustainable blue economy and address its current financing challenges.

He said the forum will showcase investment, innovation, and policy development for a more resilient ocean and prosperous and sustainable blue economy, ensuring the well-being of present and future generations.

He mentioned that the Honiara Summit, hosted by the Solomon Islands in February this year, was one of the preparatory meetings for UNOC3.

“As the host of the February summit, I will be reporting at the third UN Conference on Oceans in Nice, France.”

Following the conference in Nice, Manele is scheduled to attend the OPEC Fund for International Development Forum on June 17 in Vienna, Austria as one of the key speakers.

The OPEC Forum will focus on global transitions in energy systems, agriculture, educational frameworks, and digital technology.

At the margins of the forum, the Prime Minister will sign a framework agreement with the OPEC Fund to guide Solomon Islands’ relationship with the organization.
